An manhole steam pipe overheated on a Midtown Manhattan street Thursday afternoon at the corner of 42nd Street and Third Avenue. A single FDNY engine responded along with an ambulance, as a precaution. Traffic was closed off in the far right lane of Third Avenue for several hours, while the incident was investigated. There were no reports of any injuries. Steam spewed from the manhole cover like a scene from the classic film Taxi Driver staring Robert De Niro.
