The United Kingdom announced this week it is supporting the government of central African nation Cameroon to help solve its current humanitarian and security challenges. There have been growing concerns over human rights violations amid the Cameroonian government’s arrest of political opposition leader Maurice Kamto and others, since the central west African nation’s controversial elections last October. His Excellency Rowan James Laxton, the British High Commissioner to Cameroon announced last Wednesday that the UK government has expressed its readiness to help Cameroon resolve its political and security challenges.
“I just had a very productive meeting with His Excellency President Paul Biya. I said to the President my Government was determined to support Cameroon to overcome its current difficulties, but also to make the most of the enormous potential of this wonderful country,”
