WASHINGTON DC – Civil Rights icon  Rev. Jesse Jackson made a dramatic delivery of  food and water Wednesday to activists who have been occupying the Venezuela embassy in the Georgetown section of Washington D.C.   Jackson arrived at the besieged diplomatic compound to show support for the Embassy Protection Collective that has been peacefully living in the embassy to protect it from being illegally taken over by the opposition.    An activist group that supports embattled Venezuela President Nicholas Maduro has been protesting and living inside of the Venezuela Embassy in Washington D.C. for weeks. The group, which calls themselves the Code Pink, has been occupying the embassy since April 14.  They say they are living there in order to “protect”  the embassy from takeover by representatives of  “interim president” Juan Guaidó, who they contend is Trump’s puppet mounting a coup against the Maduro government.  Police have not allowed food into the Embassy since May 1stLast week,  authorities cut power and water off at the Venezuela embassy in the Georgetown section of Washington D.C. in an apparent effort to starve them out of the diplomatic compound.  Concerned about the lack of food and water for the members of the collective inside the building, Rev. Jackson delivered supplies to them.

“I stand with Code Pink and the Venezuela peace activists fighting to end the war in Venezuela.  I’m going to attempt to take some food and water to those who are locked up on the inside. They’re in there without water or food, the lights are turned off, and so we want to stand with them. I hope that we can be heard here and in Venezuela.”
