SAN FRANCISCO   –    San Francisco Supervisor Shamann Walton is demanding that officials take action to dramatically reduce the number of homicides and violent crime in the City by the Bay.  Walton unveiled  his ambitious plan called “Vision Zero on Homicides and Violent Crimes”  at the SF Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday July 30.  The supervisor then introduced a resolution at the Board meeting,  which calls on Mayor London Breed  to  work with district supervisors to identify a violence prevention coordinator for each district that will orchestrate resources and provide a safety plan. According to Supervisor Walton,  just this year alone, as of July 19, “we’ve had seven murders, 17 shootings involving injuries and 55 shootings without injury. Although these are not the high numbers we used to see, this senseless violence has to stop,” he said at Tuesday’s rally.

“It’s time for us to take a major stance against homicides and against violent crimes. It’s time to allocate resources and services to the areas that suffer from the plagues of violence the most here in San Francisco.”

-San Francisco Supervisor Shamann Walton

The SF Supervisor was born in San Francisco and lived in public housing at an early age in Bayview and Potrero Hill. He has worked in District 10 neighborhoods for decades and has witnessed firsthand the challenges “our community faces from long-time residents being pushed out of the city to losing childhood friends to violence and incarceration.”
