Sudan’s civilian pro-democracy movement and the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) on Saturday signed a historic power-sharing agreement in the central African nation’s capital city, Khartoum, after weeks of political crisis and deadly violence following the overthrow of then-Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir in April. Sudan’s capital was placed on lock down this Summer as paramilitary groups dismantled the many sit-in protest sites that sprouted up as Sudanese people call for an end to the military-led government. More than 100 people were reported killed in violence. The violence began when security forces fired on pro-democracy protesters in Khartoum. Deadly violence gripped Sudan’s capital in the aftermath of the army overthrowing the authoritarian government of al-Bashir. The deal was signed by Mohamed Hamdan “Hemeti” Dagolo and Lt-Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan for the TMC, and Ahmed al-Rabie for the Alliance for Freedom and Change group of pro-democracy protesters. The prime ministers of Ethiopia and Egypt and the South Sudanese president were among regional leaders attending ceremony
