UNITED NATIONS – NEW YORK – Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon Tuesday defended his government’s action last week barring two Democratic US congresswomen from entering the country. Israel banned Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota from visiting the country. Giving into intense pressure from President Trump, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s barred the two members of the United States Congress from entering Israel for an official visit. The Democratic congresswomen are outspoken critics of Israel who have voiced their support for the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement, known as BDS. Israel’s decision to block congresswomen Omar and Tlaib drew widespread criticism

“We welcome everyone to come and visit our beautiful country, our beautiful democracy. A few days ago, a Congressional group came to Israel and Democrats and Republicans alike came and met with President Netenyahu, met others. But those two Congresswomen did not want to come along. They wanted to come and create a provocation to incite, and that thing we can not allow. They wanted to come and create a provocation , and that led to the decision.”
