Four people have been killed in violent confrontations in Ivory Coast amid anger over President Alassane Ouattara’s decision to run for a third term many condemn as “illegal” and against the west African nation’s constitution. President Ouattara shocked the country last week when he formally accepted the nomination of the ruling party to be its candidate in October’s election. At least three people were killed on Wednesday in the central town of Daoukro in clashes between Ouattara supporters and backers of rival candidate Henri Konan Bedie, according to media reports. On Thursday, an 18-year-old died in the southeastern town of Bonoua, 50 kilometres (30 miles) from the economic hub Abidjan in violence between demonstrators and security forces.
« Nous manifestons pour le départ du président Ouattara, parce que sa candidature viole la Constitution, nous ne voulons pas accepter un troisième mandat »

Dans une interview exclusive accordée à France 24, l’ancien chef d’État trouve que le 3e mandat du Président Ouattara est anti-constitutionnel. “Ce serait illégal”, a clairement dit HKB.

Ouattara’s early rivals include former prime minister Pascal Affi N’Guessan of the Ivorian Popular Front party, former president Henri Konan Bedie of the Democratic Party of the Ivory Coast, and former foreign minister Marcel Amon-Tanoh. Ivory Coast’s 86-year-old former president Henri Konan Bédié declared his opposition party’s candidate for October’s tense presidential election.
