Léon Charles, Haiti’s permanent representative to the Organization of American States, has been given back his old job as boss of the Haitian National Police (PNH). Charles was appointed as general director of the PNH on Monday, replacing Rameau Normil, who led PNH during a 14-month period that saw the rise of violence and insecurity in Haiti. Charles last headed the Haitian National Police 15 years ago. Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe presided over the installation of the new police chief and told Charles that “fear must finally change sides in Haiti.”
“For this, I urge the PNH to fully play its role of protecting and serving by disabling all bandits.”
