Organization of American States  Secretary General Luis Almagro met with the  President of Honduras , Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado, Thursday at OAS headquarters in  Washington D.C.   President  Hernández Alvarado  assumed office on 27 January 2014, after winning the 2013 Honduran general election. He began his second presidential term on 27 January 2018 .  Hernández Alvarado was the president of the National Congress of Honduras between January 2010 and June 2013, when he was given permission by the Congress to absent himself from all responsibilities in the Congress to dedicate himself to his presidential campaign.  President Hernández Alvarado also spoke  in a pre-recorded message which was played during the United Nations General Assembly’s special session to discuss the response to COVID-19 and the best path to recovery from the pandemic on Thursday at U.N. headquarters, in New York.
