Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the commanders of the military-army chiefs amid the worsening security situation in the West African nation.    President Buhari made the the announcements in  Twitter tweets naming the replacements  stopping short of acknowledging they were fired.   Major-General  Leo Irabor was named to the powerful Chief of Defence Staff post, which oversees the main military branches, while Major-General  I Attahiru,   Rear-Admiral A Z Gambo and  Air-Vice Marshall   I O Amao would command the army, navy and air force respectively.

The President provided no reasons  for the resignations of Nigeria’s Army, Navy, Air force and Chiefs of Defence staff heads.   Political observes noted that  the  military shakeups come as Nigeria continues to grapple with widespread insecurity including the long-running Boko Haram insurgency and rampant kidnappings.   President  Buhari, a former army general first elected in 2015, came to power promising to tackle Nigeria’s security problems.
