Former Somali ambassador to the United States Abdikarim Ali Omar has died in the United States of America at the age of 70. Omar died Jan. 20, 2021 in the U.S. state of Ohio of natural causes, according to his family. Omar was the last Somali ambassador to the United States before the fall of the government and civil war in 1991.

Abdikarim was served Somalia ambassador to US IN 1989 during former Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre’s administration. Prior his post in Somali embassy in Washington, Omar headed Somalia’s embassy in Canada. Omar was married to Deka Mohamed Siad, daughter of former President Barre. The couple have six grown children.
