WASHINGTON DC – Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn ignited a firestorm of controversy for apparently suggesting that a Myanmar-style coup “should happen” in the U.S. Many accused Flynn of endorsing an actual military coup in comments he made at a weekend event held in Dallas. Former White House ethics lawyer Richard Painter suggested that Flynn should be court-martialed, in an interview with CNN. Flynn appeared to back track a bit from his comments.
Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby when asked about Flynn’s comments during a press briefing Tuesday said:
“I’ve seen the press reports on that. And I’ve seen press reporting also that seemed to suggest that he was refuting those comments. The department’s not going to have an official comment one way or another on this.”

When asked whether the Defense Department will recall General Flynn to service and court marshal him for treason, the Pentagon press secretary responded by saying:
“I know of no such plans to do so.”
