Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family is said to have hidden away $30 million in secret offshore accounts, according to The Pandora Papers. The Kenyattas’ offshore investments, including a company with stocks and bonds worth $30m (£22m), were discovered among hundreds of thousands of pages of administrative paperwork from the archives of 14 law firms and service providers in Panama and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) and other tax havens, according to the BBC. Kenyatta visited with U.S. President Joe Biden this week at the White House. It is no secret that when most African leaders meet with the powerful president of the United States, they come with hat in hand seeking lucrative financial handouts. It is a bit rich for a president who reportedly has $30 million stashed away in secret banks to look for more money for his country when the cabbage sitting offshore can feed a lot of Kenyans. We don’t know if Biden promised any money to the Kenyan president, but apparently he is donating 17 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to the African Union. For sure, president Kenyatta would rather have $17 million than the J&J doses.
President Biden and Kenya Leader Discuss “Transparency” But no Mention of the $30 Million in Off Shore Banks
“President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. met today with President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya to address the strong U.S.-Kenyan partnership. Together, President Biden and President Kenyatta underscored the need to bring additional transparency and accountability to domestic and international financial systems and to advance peaceful resolutions to the conflicts in Somalia and Ethiopia.”

President Biden did not even address the Pandora Papers revelations in a brief appearance with Kenyatta at the start of the Oval Office meeting. Kenyatta is one of more than 330 current and former politicians identified as beneficiaries of secret accounts revealed in recent reports known as the Pandora Papers.
