HARLEM – NEW YORK – A New York City Police officer was shot and killed and another critically wounded Friday when a gunman opened fire on them inside a Harlem apartment. The officers were shot while responding to a domestic violence call. The NYPD identified the slain cop as 22-year-old officer Jason Rivera. The cop who was critically injured was identified as 27-year-old Wilbert Mora. The two, and a third officer, were responding to a 911 call about a woman having a dispute with her son at 6:15 p.m. at the apartment located at 119 W. 135th street, according to police. When the cops arrived, the woman and one son were at the front of the apartment. The two officers were shot at without warning when they went down a narrow hallway to the rear bedroom where the suspect was, police said.

Police Shoot Suspected Gunman in Head As He Tried to Escape
Lashawn McNeil, 47, is accused of fatally shooting an NYPD officer and critically wounding his partner. (NYPD)
A third officer on the scene shot the suspect, identified as Lashawn McNeil, in the head and arm when he tried to flee the apartment, police said. McNeil, 47, was in critical condition at the hospital, officials said. The alleged gunman is convicted felon who was on probation at the time of the shooting, police said.

A Glock .45 pistol, with a magazine capable of holding 40 rounds, was recovered by detectives at the scene. Police said it was stolen from Baltimore in 2017.

Other NYPD Officer Shot Is In Harlem Hospital in critical condition

The partner of the slain officer, NYPD officer Wilbert Mora, is in Harlem Hospital in critical condition, police said.
