CUBA Has The Most Female Inventors in the World For International Patents

CUBA is the country with the most female inventors with pending international patents in 2021, according to data published by the World Intellectual Property Organization.  Globally, the share of women applicants applying for patents was only 17 percent. Cuba was high above the global average with more than half of all registered patent applicants (53 percent) being women in 2021.  The Philippines came in second, where 38 percent of its inventors seeking patents were women.  Portugal was the highest-ranked European country in rank 3, followed by Romania in rank 6 and Spain in rank 10. Spanish-speaking countries were featured heavily among the top 10 and also included Costa Rica, Peru and Chile.

China ranked above average at 24 percent, while Japan has the “poorest performance” with only 10 percent of women inventors, the World Intellectual Property Organization said.
