UNITED NATIONS   –   NEW  YORK –  Humanity is absent from many of the acts committed in Ukraine, from rape and murder to the cruelty of civilians, H.E. Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defence of Ireland said. Coveney recently visted Ukraine and said he was horrified by the sheer cruelty and brutality he saw.  Coveney addressed the UN Security Council Tuesday on the situation in Ukraine.  “These are war crimes that demand accountability,” the Irish foreign minister said.

During address before UN Security Council, Coveney accused Russian forces of showing an “utter disregard” for international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians.

“Ireland cannot and will not remain silent while this senseless and devastating war continues.”
