The international community has condemned a reported attack by Al-Shabab militants in Somalia that may have killed 170 peace keepers. According to the BBC, the al-Qaeda affiliate says it killed 170 AU soldiers Tuesday, mostly from Burundi who were part of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS)
“The EU strongly condemns the attack on the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia’s (ATMIS) operating base in the area of El-Baraf town in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region on 3 May 2022 which resulted in the death and injury of a number of peacekeepers from Burundi as well as a several Somali citizens.”

France strongly condemns the attack by Al Shabab
France strongly condemned the attack by Al Shabab on a base belonging to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia.
“France offers its condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and the Burundian authorities. France stands with the African Union in the fight against terrorism”
