Helicopter Crashes Into Manhattan NY Building: Pilot Killed

A helicopter crashed onto the roof of a 54-story building Monday afternoon in Midtown Manhattan, killing the pilot, New York City police and fire officials said.  It was a privately-owned helicopter, according to authorities.  NYC Fire Department said the crash happened at 787  7th Avenue, between 51st Street and 52nd Street in Midtown, at  1:45 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was pronounced dead after first responders, who responded in about four minutes, found the person on the roof. FDNY confirmed a helicopter crash-landed onto the roof of 787 7th Ave in Manhattan. The fire was been quickly extinguished, and members continued to operate in response to fuel leaking from the helicopter.  American Continental Properties said the pilot’s name is Tim McCormack. FAA records show he was issued a commercial pilot certificate in September 2004, according to NY1. The Agusta A109E helicopter crash landed after it took off from the 34th Street heliport, Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.
