President Of UN General Assembly Visits Kingdom of Jordan, Meets Officials and Women Leaders

UNITED NATIONS –  The President of the General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés  concluded her four-day visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Wednesday.   During her visit,  Espinosa Garcés  met with Prime Minister Omar Razzaz  on Monday and discussed Jordan’s relation with UN agencies.   According to Jordan media,  Razzaz  also reiterated that the lack of a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause is the root of most clashes in the Middle East and the reason for a lack of regional stability. 

“The PGA also held a bilateral meeting with women leaders in Jordan following a conversation, which she held on Tuesday evening, with a group of youth leaders,”  Monica Grayley,  spokesperson for PGA Espinosa Garcés, told reporters at a press briefing Wednesday at UN world headquarters in New York.

In a tweet,   Espinosa said that she felt “inspired by the group of young leaders and by their creativity, dreams and innovative projects”.  She was also delighted to hear that one of the Jordanian female students, whom she met, expressed her plans, to one day, become herself the President of the General Assembly.  “Following her meeting with women leaders in Jordan including young girls, Ms. Espinosa spoke about the need for more rights, inclusion and education to foster a culture of more women in positions of power around the world,”  the PGA spokesperson said.

-The GA President will start an official trip to the Russian Federation Sunday July 28 –

During her visit to the Russian Federation, the  Espinosa Garcés will meet senior officials, lawmakers, members of the academia and think tanks,  according to the PGA spokesperson. 

“She will address issues such as the strengthening of multilateralism, Russia’s cooperation with the United Nations, revitalization of the work of the GA – which is one of Ms. Espinosa’s seven priorities, as well as climate change, youth empowerment, the preparations for the upcoming High-Level Week including the General Debate, and the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations, to be marked in 2020.”
