UNITED NATIONS – NEW YORK – The US Trump administration today imposed sweeping economic sanctions against Venezuela government, imposing a total financial embargo on the Latin American nation in a bid to choke the life out of the regime of Nicholas Maduro. President Trump signed an Executive Order blocking all property and interests in property of the Government of Venezuela that are in the United States. Venezuela now faces many of the tough US restrictions on Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria. The US sanctions come three months after “interim” Venezuela president Juan Guaidó’s failed coup attempt against Maduro.
“While this is not an embargo, this significant action is in response to the continuing usurpation of power by Maduro and persons affiliated with him from the legitimate interim government of Interim President Guaido, as well as human rights abuses, including extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary arrest and detention of Venezuelan citizens, interference with freedom of expression, including for members of the media, and ongoing attempts to undermine Interim President Guaido and the democratically elected National Assembly’s exercise of legitimate authority in Venezuela.”

Venezuela Ambassador Requests United Nations To Condemn US Military Threats To Country
In a press conference at United Nations world headquarters in New York Tuesday, Venezuela’s Ambassador to the UN Samuel Moncada accused the Trump Administration of attempting to fabricate a military invasion with his country by provocations.
“Today we are sending two letters. One to the Security Council. One to the UN Secretary General. In those letters we ask first to relate the series of aggressive and hostile actions of the United States Government, in particular President Trump’s Administration against Venezuela. …very serious and dangerous in severity and gravity. Last Friday, Trump threatening Venezula with a Naval blockade (in violation of ) the UN Charter (which) only authorizes it if there are threats to peace. We have no evidence of Venezuela threatening the peace of anybody. In that letter , we relay that the US government is provoking a military incident by sending spy planes into the flight information region controlled by Venezuela without any warning just for the sake of creating an incident. And then threatening, at the same time, with using its military might against Venezuela. They are fabricating justification and excuse to clash with Venezuela and invade Venezuela. We relate more than 55 incidents where the US Southern Command sent military planes into Venezuela’s flight information region without any warning, without any information. We are not talking about mistakes. We are talking about a systemic execution of a plan trying to create an incident.”

The Venezuela ambassador also accused the Trump administration of sending military assets into the country’s territorial waters as close as 14 nautical miles of the capital Caracas. “The united states now is a threat to international peace. And we are asking now Security Council and Secretary General to take action to condemn the threat to peace, the (threat of) use of military force against Venezuela publicly. We are asking him to intervene to see if he can deescalate the conflict. Because the US is escalating the conflict,” ambassador Moncado said.
Ambassador Moncada Sharply Criticizes US national security adviser, John Bolton, promoting embargo against Venezuela in Peru today.
U.S. national security council adviser John Bolton
Addressing a summit on Venezuela’s crisis in Peru’s capital, Lima, Bolton pronounced Maduro’s “dying regime” doomed – even though a seven-month US-backed campaign has so far failed to topple Hugo Chávez’s authoritarian successor, the UK Guardian. ‘Some fear the latest US sanctions will further aggravate an already dire humanitarian situation which has already forced millions to flee Venezuela, while others believe they will alienate ( Juan) Guaidó’s European backers who believe a negotiated solution is possible,’ the Guardian reports.
“Bolton goes to Peru today and announced a total economic embargo against Venezuela. As we have never seen in our history. They are freezing all economic assets in US territories. But more than that, they are threatening coercive measures against any individual or company our country that deals with Venezuela. It is a world-wide measure. It is not just within US jurisdiction. We have this rogue superpower imposing its will over the rest of the world, and forcing the rest of the world to obey them, while they are violating human rights of entire populations. We reject this aggression. This is an act of war the US is declaring against Venezuela for no reason. Venezuela is no threat to anyone.” Ambassador Moncada stated.
